Richard Rothwell is a Principal in Pendulum Power
Solutions. He has 30 years of experience in the electric generation
industry. Richard is a seasoned professional whose experience includes
supervision and management positions at nuclear, hydro, coal as well as
oil & gas power generation plants. As such, Richard is intimately
familiar with all facets of electric power generation ranging from
detailed engineering design and reviews to overall administrative
responsibility at several plants.
As Plant Manager at the Harvey Couch Steam Electric
Station, Richard managed a unique two-unit plant that used a company
owned gas field. Plant generating capacity was 30 MW’s for Unit 1 and
131 MW’s for Unit 2. The plant was bestowed a "Luminary
Award" for being the top power plant in the Arkansas Power &
Light Company system for 1990. The award was based on reducing non-fuel
operations and maintenance costs, safety, and community service.
Richard also has plenty of cogeneration experience
including Plant Manager for Entergy's Louisiana Station. This
unregulated cogeneration plant is an integral part of a large Exxon
refinery and chemical plant complex. The plant delivers up to 2.2
million lbs/hr of steam and up to 380 MW’s of electricity. Major
equipment includes a combination of boilers, extraction
turbines/generators, and combined cycle technology. Richard's
responsibilities included support of a major expansion to the plant
adding a new 165 MW General Electric 7 FA gas turbine/generator, a one
million lbs/hr heat recovery steam generator, and a new 4,000 gpm
reverse osmosis water treatment plant.
Richard's latest assignment as an independent
consultant included support for the first 160 MW phase of CMS Energy
Corporation's Dearborn Industrial Generation plant being constructed on
the site of the Rouge Steel Company and Ford Motor Company complex in
Dearborn, Michigan. Under an accelerated construction schedule, this
first phase was completed in only eight months after project
announcement.
Richard is a registered P.E., Texas and holds a Master
of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and a B.S. in Mechanical
Engineering.
